WEST QUODDY STATE PARK

West Quoddy Head Light in Lubec, Maine, the easternmost point of the contiguous United States and the closest point to Europe from a point in the fifty States .

The State Park in Lubec is open for visitors and boasts 541 protected coastal acres.  

Stunning views are available on many hiking trails and nature walks. 

Visit the bogs, hike the coastal trail or visit the rocky beach. You may see a whale or two. 

Picnic tables are available, close to parking with stunning ocean views. 

History and details of the lighthouse:

Originally built in 1808, by order of President Thomas Jefferson, the original wooden tower was replaced by the current tower which became operational in 1858.  The red and white tower is the only "candy striped" tower in the United States.  

The Tower is 49 feet tall, with a 16 foot diameter base.  The center of the lantern stands 83 feet above sea level.

Whale Watching Tours

TARQUIN

The Inn on the Wharf's boat Tarquin seats 26 with inside and outside comfort. 


The whale watching tour leaves from the Wharf in Lubec, will show you whales, tell you sea stories and let you have a glimpse of seals, eagles and lighthouses. (Weather Permitting)

 

The Wharf is part of a working waterfront. Before or after the tour, enjoy dinner at our restaurant, Fisherman’s Wharf.
